Frey Scientific Neo Sci AP Biology Lab 1 Artificial Selection 8-Station Refill Kit allows the students to measure a variable trait and then select 10%-15% of the plants that expressed that trait strongly. The subpopulation is separated from the large population during pollination and the rest of the cycle. The second generation of seeds are planted and raised to a similar life as the previous population and measure the variation. Students determine the genotypic and phenotypic ratio of stem and leaf color in a third generation of plants and repeat the experiment. Students can define the investigation problems cooperation and apply mathematical methods of analysis regarding data sets with the goal to determine the future. Artificial selection is investigated as a mechanism of evolution and determines the selection acts as phenotypic variations in a population. Data based evidence is evaluated based on the evolutionary changes in population.
