Delta Science Modules Oceans Complete Kit, Edition 3, Grades 5 to 6
Description
Comprehensive, affordable and effective, Delta Science Modules Edition 3 (DSM-3) Kits provide an inquiry-based, hands-on approach to teaching a specific science topic through the use of activities and investigative equipment. Delta Science Modules Oceans Complete Kit will have your class investigate our watery planet Earth with a graphic model that compares water to land, salt water to fresh water, oceans to seas, and the Atlantic to the Pacific Ocean. Students will get their hands wet (literally!) as they investigate several ocean phenomena: saltiness, wave action, and currents. Students will use ocean depth data to create a 3D model of the ocean floor, make hydrometers to measure water density, and assemble a tidal dial to explore the ocean's rise and fall. Students will also model adaptive features of fish and marine mammals and use sea specimens to study an assortment of mollusks and other creatures of the intertidal zone.
Along with the kit activities, the Oceans Delta Science Reader (and complementary Skillbuilders booklet that helps students practice reading/grammar/writing/vocabulary skills with the content from the Delta Science Reader) will have students dive even deeper into exploring the ocean, the great body of salt water that covers nearly three-fourths of Earth's surface. They will read and learn about the composition of ocean water, features of the ocean floor, how ocean waters move, and how oceans affect weather and climate. They will also: find out about the many resources the ocean provides; read about marine biologist Dr. Sylvia Earle and undersea explorer Jacques-Yves Cousteau; and finally, learn about deep-ocean exploration.
Delta Science Modules Edition 3 (DSM-3) consist of a total of 59 assorted kits ranging from Grade K to 8 levels, each with a step-by-step teacher guide, student readers, 12-14 interconnected activities, and enough equipment to serve up to 32 students. Select kits also contain a pre-paid coupon for Living materials. Educators have the flexibility to have students follow the detailed activities that are provided, or customize their own curriculum plan with the equipment provided.
