Earthquakes release huge amounts of energy and cause tremendous amounts of destruction in many parts of the world.. First, students will make subsurface model and model of a city using the colorful parts. They’ll then use their subsurface model to look at the features of an earthquake, epicenter, focus (hypocenter) and the P and S seismic waves. Finally, they’ll employ their model of a city to look at the destructive effects of the surface L and R waves.
The Model Making Kit includes enough materials for students to assemble up to 5 paper models working cooperatively.
