- Lessons allow students to apply strategies to informational or narrative texts
- Units culminate with the Comprehension Library reader that supports the independent application of skills and strategies
Focus on Connections
Making Connections® is a direct, systematic, and highly interactive comprehension program that teaches students strategies to build their comprehension. The program employs a scaffolded instructional plan that supports students by modeling, guiding, and then coaching students to independence. Fiction and nonfiction texts are tied to content-area topics to prepare students to analyze and interpret diverse materials across content areas.
Students will learn how to:
- Understand skills such as cause and effect, drawing conclusions, and predicting outcomes
- Locate, interpret, and organize key information in a text
- Analyze words in a text using vocabulary strategies
- Utilize text features such as maps, graphs, tables, photos, and glossaries to aid comprehension
- Interpret a variety of genres including biographies, science & social studies texts, Greek myth and much more!
