Delta Science Modules Weather Watching Complete Kit, Edition 3, Grades 2 to 3
Description
Comprehensive, affordable and effective, Delta Science Modules Edition 3 (DSM-3) Kits provide an inquiry-based, hands-on approach to teaching a specific science topic through the use of activities and investigative equipment. Delta Science Modules Weather Watching Complete Kit will teach your class how to observe, describe, and measure aspects of weather using key science vocabulary, weather instruments, and, most importantly, scientific understanding. After brainstorming why weather changes from day to day, season to season, and place to place, students will get to investigate temperature and wind strength. They will construct rain gauges, lightning rods, and wind socks. They’ll also find out which cloud formations predict which weather patterns, as well as explore the causal conditions for such phenomena as rainbows, thunderstorms, and snowflakes. Plus, students will even model tornadoes, track hurricanes, and interpret weather maps just like a real meteorologist!
Along with the kit activities, the Weather Watching Delta Science Reader (and complementary Skillbuilders booklet that helps students practice reading/grammar/writing/vocabulary skills with the content from the Delta Science Reader) will get students to read and explore more about what weather is and what causes it to change. They will also read about the water cycle and various weather tools, such as the thermometer, barometer, wind vane, rain gauge, and anemometer. The book clearly explains how weather changes according to the seasons, and also features more about what tornadoes, hurricanes, blizzards, and thunderstorms are. In a biographical sketch, students will get to ‘meet’ Ben Franklin, and they also find out about the work of a meteorologist. Lastly, students will get to learn and explore how weather satellites collect weather data from space.
