Delta Science Modules Sunshine and Shadows Complete Kit, Edition 3, Grades K to 1
Description
Comprehensive, affordable and effective, Delta Science Modules Edition 3 (DSM-3) Kits provide an inquiry-based, hands-on approach to teaching a specific science topic through the use of activities and investigative equipment. Delta Science Modules Sunshine and Shadows Complete Kit helps students explore shadows from every possible angle. Students will begin with a simple definition of shadow and end with a full-fledged original performance in a shadow theater. Once students can learn and identify what is needed to make a shadow, a light source, a solid object, and a surface, they will be off and running in both indoor and outdoor activities and making predictions about how shadows change position, size, and length, and even become multiples or simply disappear. From these experiments, students will then draw conclusions about the variables (such as the sun’s movement) that affect shadow shapes. They will also create silhouettes to explore shadow properties, and build sundials to put shadows to work telling time.
Along with the kit activities, the Sunshine and Shadows Delta Science First Reader will allow students to read more about the world of light and shadows. They will: learn about how shadows are formed and why shadows change size and shape; find out about different sources of light and identify kinds of objects that block light to make a shadow; read about the job of a meteorologist, a scientist who studies and forecasts weather, sunny or otherwise; and lastly, learn how sundials use sunlight and shadows and tell the time.
Delta Science Modules Edition 3 (DSM-3) consist of a total of 59 assorted kits ranging from Grade K to 8 levels, each with a step-by-step teacher guide, student readers, 12-14 interconnected activities, and enough equipment to serve up to 32 students. Select kits also contain a pre-paid coupon for Living materials. Educators have the flexibility to have students follow the detailed activities that are provided, or customize their own curriculum plan with the equipment provided.
