Comprehensive, affordable and effective, Delta Science Modules Edition 3 (DSM-3) Kits provide an inquiry-based, hands-on approach to teaching a specific science topic through the use of activities and investigative equipment. In the Delta Science Modules Magnets Complete Kit, your class will discover the Law of Magnetic Attraction and much more about the principles that govern magnetic behavior and interaction. Students will experiment with magnets of various sizes and shapes, even our planet-sized magnet, to explore this invisible but observable force. They will find out which materials are attracted to magnets and which can "block" the passage of magnetic force. They will demonstrate magnetic fields and polarity using iron filings. Then, students will get to make compasses that align with Earth's magnetic poles. Next, they will model temporary magnetism and use a simple circuit and an iron nail to create an electromagnet. A space shuttle video will also challenge students to consider the applications of magnets in our technological society.

Along with the kit activities, the Magnets Delta Science Reader (and complementary Skillbuilders booklet that helps students practice reading/grammar/writing/vocabulary skills with the content from the Delta Science Reader) will have students read more about magnets and magnetic fields. They will also: learn how magnets are made, how magnets can create electricity, what magnets are used for, and how Earth is like a magnet; read about Michael Faraday, the famous nineteenth-century scientist who invented the electric motor and the electric generator, both of which use magnets; and finally, learn about applications of magnets in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and maglev trains.

Delta Science Modules Edition 3 (DSM-3) consist of a total of 59 assorted kits ranging from Grade K to 8 levels, each with a step-by-step teacher guide, student readers, 12-14 interconnected activities, and enough equipment to serve up to 32 students.
