Delta Science Modules Force and Motion Complete Kit, Edition 3, Grades 2 to 3
Description
Comprehensive, affordable and effective, Delta Science Modules Edition 3 (DSM-3) Kits provide an inquiry-based, hands-on approach to teaching a specific science topic through the use of activities and investigative equipment. With the Delta Science Modules Force and Motion Complete Kit, your students will first learn how use a Delta Education tool (a push-pull meter) to measure force. They will learn how to compare the relative work of moving identical objects at different distances and different objects at identical distances. After, students will discover how simple machines make work easier by reducing the amount of force needed. They will lift with levers, roll with wheels and axles, and raise with fixed and movable pulleys. They will also drag loads up inclined planes, separate objects with wedges, and secure wood blocks with screws. In a teacher demonstration, students will see how a spring scale works, and eventually, your class of young scientists will crank gears, decrease friction, and investigate household gadgets to identify what makes them labor-saving devices.
Along with the kit activities, the Force and Motion Delta Science Reader (and complementary Skillbuilders booklet that helps students practice reading/grammar/writing/vocabulary skills with the content from the Delta Science Reader) will have students read more about the relationship between force, motion, and work. They will discover how the 6 simple machines (lever, wheel and axle, pulley, inclined plane, wedge, and screw) help people do work by moving objects easier, faster, or farther. They will also read about people in science, bicycle inventors, and how they created ways to make the bicycle an increasingly more complex (and safe) machine. Last but not least, students will find out how the waterwheel works and how friction affects motion.
Delta Science Modules Edition 3 (DSM-3) consist of a total of 59 assorted kits ranging from Grade K to 8 levels, each with a step-by-step teacher guide, student readers, 12-14 interconnected activities, and enough equipment to serve up to 32 students. Select kits also contain a pre-paid coupon for Living materials. Educators have the flexibility to have students follow the detailed activities that are provided, or customize their own curriculum plan with the equipment provided.
