CPO Science features complete, coordinated active learning core curriculum programs rich in STEM connections and aligned to the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS). Simple Machines includes the CPO Science Ropes and Pulleys, Gears, and Levers modules. In the Ropes and Pulleys investigations, your class will explore the principles of force and work as they discover how to arrange the strings for increased mechanical advantage. Ropes and pulleys are the ideal hands-on tools to enable you to teach the concepts of work and energy to your students. In the Gears investigations, important ideas such as ratios, angles, and the geometry of the circle will become "real" to your students. Through the Levers investigations, students will easily derive the relationship between force and distance on a lever. They will also explore the concepts of work and torque. In addition, students will explore how engineers design, test, and refine machines.

STEM concepts covered in Simple Machines include work, energy, mechanical advantage, simple machines, levers, gears, gear rations, compound machines, ropes and pulleys, forces, efficiency, rotational motion, torque, lever in the human body, and engineering design.

• CPO Science Link engages students and boosts understanding of key concepts with hands-on science and engineering investigations and innovative digital learning experiences
• All modules consist of investigations and teacher's guide, hands-on equipment, tablet-enabled learning, and online multimedia content with whiteboard resources
• Program for middle school or high school accommodates differentiated instruction and can be used to enhance any existing traditional or alternative curriculum
• Concepts covered meet STEM, Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), and Common Core State Standards Initiatives
• Simple Machines addresses MS-PS3-2, MS-PS3-5, MS-ETS1-2, HS-PS2-4, HS-PS3-3, and HS-ETS1-2 for NGSS performance expectations
