Amaco® ArtEmboss® Jewelry

Lesson Plan, Grades 5-12, Art, Amaco

Description

This jewelry project is based on the two metal working techniques of reprousse and chasing. Reprousse is a metal working technique in which metal is worked on the backside to create a relief pattern. Chasing is just the opposite of reprousse. Chasing allows the students to create relief on the front of a piece and refi ne the reprousse work. Combining the two techniques allows the students the opportunity to create detailed metal work. Amaco® ArtEmboss® Aluminum Sheets combined with Fiskars® Rubbing Plates will make learning these two techniques easy.

Objectives

  • Students will study and discuss the techniques of reprousse and chasing in jewelry making and create a piece of jewelry using these techniques.

Instructions

1

Place black surface face down. Center cardboard square on silver side of foil and trace around it. This is the area to be decorated.

2

Place foil piece black side up on a Fiskars® Texture Plate and tool the area inside of the square.

3

You can use either side of the foil when tooling to get different effects. Try using more than one texture plate for additional texture.

4

Create your own unique design. By drawing or scribbling on the foil.

5

Embellish with colored pencils, gel pens, etc.

6

Use ScotchBrite to remove black surface in some areas.

7

When done tooling clip the corners of the tooling foil and bend over the cardboard square. Either tape or glue down. Smooth corners of foiled piece so there are no sharp edges.

8

To fi nish you could glue a plain piece of paper to the back and then add a pin back.
